1912 Abbott-Detroit
The Abbott-Detroit was launched in 1909 by Charles Abbott with a 4 cylinder 30hp Continental engine. The 5 seater body was the only style available at a price of $1500. Charles Abbott left the company in 1910 and the new owner, Edward Gerber, increased the range to five on a 110 inch wheelbase plus a long chassis of 120 inches for a 7 seater limousine priced at $3000. Production reached about 1800 vehicles in that year and was never exceeded. In 1914 a 6 cylinder Continental powered car was added. Gerber left the company in 1915 to be replaced by R A Palmer who changed the name to the Consolidated Car Co. Palmer added the V8 Model 8-80 with a Herschell-Spillman engine and dropped the 4 cylinder model. Just prior to America entering the First World War in April 1917 the company relocated to a large factory in Cleveland Ohio and was renamed Abbott. By this time sales were dwindling and the only models built at the new factory were the 6 cylinder type. In all about 12200 cars were built over the 12 year period.
