Ferdinand Porsche joined Austro-Daimler in 1905 as Technical Director becoming Managing Director in 1916. He received an honorary doctorate from Vienna University in 1917 which was no doubt awarded for his technically very advanced design work at Austro-Daimler. He was a keen advocate of developing smaller efficient engines rather than just adding extra litres in order to gain more power, his approach being amply demonstrated by Austro-Daimler, the marque achieving considerable success in the 1911 and 1912 Alpine trials with an Austro-Daimler 14/32s like this one. This exceptionally well restored 3.5 litre 4 cylinder Austro-Daimler was acquired in the Czech Republic when it was in a fairly parlous state and without any coachwork. After getting it back to the UK the new owner (who is a very experienced automotive engineer) set about a total chassis up restoration which I understand cost in excess of £70,000 excluding any charges for his own labour. As well as a comprehensive mechanical rebuild the work included fitting a craftsman built body in the style of coachwork used on contemporary Austro-Daimler military tourers. Any inspection will show that the time, effort and money that went into the car has has been very well spent as it really is in superb condition throughout and demonstrates quite remarkable attention to detail. This car will appeal to a motoring connoisseur who wants a rare and imposing Edwardian vehicle originating from the very top echelon of European design and manufacture which has been restored to the highest standard.
