Making its debut at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show, the Mondial was to succeed the 308 GT4 and was designed as Ferrari’s ‘World Car’ to meet the variety of stringent regulations in potential markets. The wheelbase is some four inches longer than its predecessor which permitted full 4-seater accommodation, whilst the engine now developed 214bhp and was mounted transversally in a sub-frame with the transmission. This made for more straightforward servicing and maintenance as the whole unit could be removed with ease.
