Reviving a name that Ferrari had first used in the early 1950's, the Mondial was unveiled at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show. The 3 litre V8 engine was mounted transversely behind the rear seats while the wheelbase for this new model had been lengthened by almost four inches to accommodate four passengers in comfort. The first series of cars had the 308 designation as in the GTB and GTS and after production had been running for 12 months Bosch K-jetronic fuel injection was available. By late 1982 the Mondial received the four valve per cylinder head treatment thereby designating it a Quattrovalvole. First seen in 1986, the 3.2 model benefitted from an increase in engine capacity from 3 litres to 3.2 litres thus improved both horsepower and torque. Styling was by Pininfarina and interior comfort was not neglected, with leather trim and a leather bound steering wheel, adjustable for height and reach. Air conditioning and central locking were standard equipment.
