Although Ferrari first introduced the Mondial in 1980, the most fundamentally revised version, the Mondial t, was launched in March 1989 and, with only 52 produced, the right hand drive cabriolet is the most exclusive. The lower case 't' signifies the transverse mounting of the gearbox, allowing the engine to be mounted lower and improving weight distribution and handling. The enlarged 3.4-litre V8 gave an increased power output, up from 270 to 300bhp, making the Mondial t the fastest of all the versions, with a top speed and 0-60mph capability of 156mph and just 5.6sec respectively. By 1993, the Valeo clutchless, though still manually-operated gearchange was offered.
