1899 Hay Hotchkiss Prototype
Hay Hotchkiss Prototype
Hay & Hotchkiss 1898-1899.
Hay & Hotchkis Company, New Haven, Connecticut.
Walter Hay was the designer and E.M.Hotchkiss the financial backer for this unusual car. The engine was described as an 8-stroke 4 cylinder horizontal unit giving an explosion in each of the four cylinders every fourth turn. It was said to need no oil or water, though "the engine simply runs a trifle harder when no oil; is used". The car never went into production, although the prototype still exists in the USA.
