1984 March Porsche Ex- Le Mans 84 G 'The Kreepy Krauley'

The Le Mans, Daytona, Spa, Nürburgring - Kreepy Krauly
1984 March-Porsche 84-G Group C World Championship Endurance Sports Racing Car
March engineering ltd was formed in 1969 by the current chairman Robin Herd, who also was responsible for many of the McLarren designs of the late sixties. Herd formed the

company with partners; Max Mosely, Alan Rees and Graham Coaker. These four pioneers jumped in at the deep end and entered the world of Formula one as well as a wide range of other cars to enter into other formulae.
Once March left formula one Grand Prix racing they started to develop production cars, this was to be a most successful attribute to the March banner. Once the Eighties came along March diversified into F3000 and Group C, for which the 'Kreepy Krauly' is eligible. The 'Kreepy Krauly' has honeycomb aluminium chassis, Kevlar and carbon fibre ground effects bodywork and is fitted with a March/Hewland five speed gearbox. In its first guise as a single turbocharged GTP car, in 1984 the 'Kreepy Krauly' had the
most fantastic debut competing at Daytona, driven by Sarel van de Merve, finishing second overall.
In 1985 this 84-G was converted to Group C specification and fitted with twin turbochargers to compete in the 24 hour race at Le Mans. The car was driven by Christian

Danner, Graham Duxbury and Elmo Capelli. The car ran extremely well in the first stages of the race, however it pitted with a burst fuel tank but all was not lost. It was not withdrawn from the race as Capelli got back into the car for the last lap. ''He was pretty much bathed in gasoline'' said Howes, the owner of the team, ''but it was the first March to finish.

Following this heroic effort at Le Mans the 'Kreepy Krauly' March Porsche became the Cosmilk March Porsche. The car went on to compete in the 1985 Spa race, where again the car was driven by Christian Danner but with Costas Los as his co-driver, where it finished seventh overall. Los went on to pilot the car at Brands Hatch with Olofsson and Galica and

finished eight overall and finished the season with Danner as co-driver once more at Shah Alam and took seventh position. 1986 saw more changes for this 84-G when its main sponsor became Metaxa and the engine was up-rated from 2600cc to 2800cc. Los became a regular competitor in the car and started the season with Tiff Needell at

Brands where they took seventh overall position. Los and Needell then followed the car to Jerez and finished in eight position.

The car then made its way to Germany and first competed in the WSPC Group C race at the Nurburgring driven by Los and Volker Weidler and finished tenth. The last notable period

event that the car competed was the ADAC Supercup again at the Nurburgring, driven by the cars most frequent driver Costas Los and finished tenth.

In the words of Costas Los; ''without any bias I can say that no car (works cars included) was more photographed than the Metaxa car during the 1986 season.'' ''The car looked very spectacular in black and yellow with the 7 star brandy logo on its flanks.''
